Rainbow Mountain Itinerary (1 Day Tour)
• 4:00 AM Pick-up in Cusco. Very early departure. 3-4 hour van ride. 3,400 m.a.s.l.
• 7:30 AM Breakfast in Cusipata. Stop for a hearty breakfast in the nearest village. 3,300 m.a.s.l.
• 8:30 AM Start of the Trek (Phulawasipata). Arrival at the starting point. Last chance to use restrooms and rent horses. 4,630 m.a.s.l.
• 8:45 AM – 10:30 AM Ascent to Vinicunca. 1.5-2 hour hike. It is a gradual but very challenging climb due to the lack of oxygen. 4,630 – 5,036 m.a.s.l.
• 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM Summit Exploration: Enjoy panoramic views of Rainbow Mountain, Red Valley, and Ausangate Mountain. 5,036 m.a.s.l.
• 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM Descent and Return: Hike back to the starting point (faster). 5,036 – 4,630 m.a.s.l.
• 1:30 PM Lunch in Cusipata: Enjoy a hot lunch on the way back. 3,300 m.a.s.l.
• 2:30 PM Return Trip to Cusco: Transfer back to the city.
• 6:30 PM Arrival in Cusco: End of the tour. You will be dropped off near the Plaza de Armas or your hotel. 3,400 m.a.s.l.

• Transportation: Round-trip transportation from Cusco (pick-up and drop-off).
• Meals: Breakfast and lunch (both in the town of Cusipata, before and after the trek).
• Guide: Professional guide service (generally bilingual).
• Oxygen: Emergency oxygen tank.
DOES NOT INCLUDE
• Entrance Fee: The entrance fee to the mountain, paid to local communities (approx. S/. 20.00 to S/. 30.00 PEN).
• Horse Rental: The horse rental service for the ascent (paid in cash to the muleteers, approx. S/. 90.00 – S/. 120.00 PEN).
• Snacks/Water: Personal drinks and any snacks outside of the tour meals.
• Tips: For the guide, driver, and, if applicable, for the muleteers.

• Maximum Acclimatization: This is the peak of a day trip (5,036 m.a.s.l.). You should spend at least 3 full, active days in Cusco before going. Lack of acclimatization can ruin your experience.
• Bring Cash: You will need Peruvian soles (PEN) for the entrance fee and for horse rentals (if needed). There are no ATMs.
• Dress Like an Andean Warrior: At that altitude and time of day, the weather is freezing, but it can warm up with hiking and the sun. Wear three essential layers:
Base layer (thermal).
Mid-layer (fleece or down jacket).
Outer layer (windbreaker/waterproof jacket).
• Use Trekking Poles: They are very helpful for balance and for reducing impact on your knees, especially on steep and muddy descents. • Take the Hike Easy: The ascent can be difficult due to limited oxygen. Walk very slowly and maintain deep, steady breathing. If you feel dizzy or nauseous, don't hesitate to use the horse or descend.
