Ausangate Trek 5 Days

One of the most requested hikes in Cusco with dazzling and wonderful landscapes such as lagoons of all kinds of colors, mountains, glaciers and villages of ancestral customs and deep and picturesque colors reflected in their clothing and their daily life.

A route with a perfect level challenge to enjoy an adventure in the Latin American Andes.


Day 1: Cusco – Ocongate – Upis

We leave Cusco at 6.00am and traveled five hours to the town of Tinqui, passing through picturesque villages along the river valley Huatanay and beautiful stretches of cultivated land. Then we continue our journey by 30 minutes until Upis (4140m), where we will camp in front of the majestic Ausangate. We observe the high-Andean customs of the people in this area and also enjoy the presence of large amounts of alpacas.

Day 2: Upis – Laguna Pucacocha

After breakfast, very early, we remount the Arapa (4700m) step to descend to the Pucacocha lagoons known with the names of Jatun Pucacocha, Viracocha and Huchuy Pucacocha, where we have great views and we also see different species of Andean birds, camped banks of a pond. (4575m).

Day 3: Lagunas Pucacocha – Step Palomani – Chilcapinaya

This day we will see the deglaciation of Ausangate. Ascend to the passage Alcatani (4650m) and continue the journey descending toward the lagoon Ausangatecocha, then ascend to the Palomani step (5050m) where we will have views of particular beauty, then we descend to Chilcapinaya where we camp.

Day 4: Chilcapinaya – Jampa Valley – Pachaspata

Our continuous along the Valley of Jampa where we appreciate Andean people in traditional costumes of the region and alpacas, sheep, llamas, alpacas tour, ascend to our last pass (4600m), to observe the beautiful lagoon of Ticllacocha, la pampa of Pachaspata camping on the banks of the lagoon Qomercocha.

Day 5: Laguna Qomerqocha – Pacchanta – Tinqui – Cusco

Accompanied by magnificent high Andean landscapes descend to the village of Pacchanta we have the option to visit the thermal baths Pacchanta. After a brief tour through the typical Andean landscape Tinqui got to where we embarked for our return to Cusco by bus.

  • waterproof hiking shoes or boots are recommended
